We have another baby in the house! June 22, 2007

His name is Cooper!  He is 10 weeks old and he’s a Beagle.  He is just too cute for words.  Wow!  Having a puppy sure is a lot of work!  Up in the middle of the night to go potty.  Watching him every second to make sure he doesn’t get into anything or potty in the house.  Man, am I exhausted!  And you know that all of the boys in my household said that they would feed him, clean up after him, take him out…blah, blah, blah…because Mommy said she didn’t want a puppy.  Mommy wanted to adopt a 1-2 year old that was house trained already.  I knew I was going to do all the work, why did I agree to this?  Now I know why puppies are so damned cute…who could be mad at you when you have a face like this?

A friend passed this on to me and I thought I would share it with you.  I want my kids to grow up like we did.  I want them to experience the same things I did when I was a kid.  Will it happen?  Probably not.  But it’s what I wish for…

Close your eyes…and go back

before the internet or PC or the MAC…

before semi-automatics and crack…

before Playstation, SEGA, SUper Nintendo, even before Atari…

before cell phones, CD’s, DVD’s, voicemail and e-mail…

way back…

way, way, way back…

I’m talkin’ bout Hide and Seek at dusk

Red Light, Green Light

Red Rover, Red Rover

Playing Kickball and Dodgeball until the first, no second, no third streetlight came on

Ring Around the Rosie

London Bridge

Hot Potato

Hop Scotch

Jump Rope

Duck, Duck, GOOSE!!!

YOU’RE IT!!!

Parents stood on the front porch and yelled (or whistled) for you to come home-no pagers or cell phones

Mother May I?

Hula Hoops

Seeing shapes in the clouds

Endless summer days and hot summer nights (no A/C) with the windows open

The sound of crickets

Running through the sprinkler

Cereal boxes with that GREAT prize in the bottom

Cracker Jacks with the same thing

Ice Pops with two sticks you could break and share with a friend

But wait…there’s more…

Watchin’ Saturday morning cartoons

Fat Albert, Road Runner, Smurfs, Picture Pages, G-Force & He-Man

Schoolhouse Rock

Watchin Sunday morning oldies (Abbott & Costello and Three Stooges)

Wonder Woman & Super Man underoos

FONZIE…”AYYYYYY”

Playing Dukes of Hazard

Christmas morning

Your first day of school

Goodnight kisses

Climbing trees

Swinging as high as you could to try and reach the sky

Getting an ice cream off the Good Humor truck

A million mosquito bites and sticky fingers

Jumpin’ down the steps

Jumpin’ on the bed

Pillow fights

Sleep-overs

A 13″ black and white TV in your room meant you were RICH

Runnin’ till you were out of breath

Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt

Being tired from PLAYING

WORK meant taking out the garbage or doing dishes

Your first crush

Your first kiss (I mean the one that you kept your mouth CLOSED and your eyes OPEN)

Rainy days at school meant playing “Heads Up 7 up” or Hangman” in the classroom, remember that?

OH, I’m not finished yet…

Kool-Aid was the drink of the summer

So was a swig from the hose

Giving your friends a ride on your handlebars

Wearing your new shoes on the first day of school

Class field trips with soggy sandwiches

When nearly everyone’s mom was at home when the kids got there

When a quarter seemed like a fair allowance

and another quarter a MIRACLE!

When ANY parent could disciplne ANY kid, or feed him, or use him to carry groceries,
and nobody, not even the kid, thought a thing of it

When being sent to the Principal’s office was nothing compared to the fate that awaited you at home

Basically, we were in fear of our lives but it wasn’t because of drive-by shootngs, drugs, gangs, etc…

Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat!  And some of us are still afraid of em!

Didn’t that feel good?  Just to go back and say “Yeah, I remember that!”

Well, let’s keep going!

Decisions were made by going “eeny-meeny-miney-mo”

Mistakes were corrected by simply stating “DO OVER!”

“Race issues” meant arguing about who ran the fastest

“Money issues” were handled by whoever was the banker in Monopoly

Catching polywogs could happily occupy a morning

It wasn’t odd to have two or three “best” friends

Being old referred to anyone over 20

The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties

Nobody was prettier than Mom

Scrapes and bruises were kissed by Mom or Grandma and made better

It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the “big people” rides at the amusement park

Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true (or for some of us…getting a foot in the snow!)

Abilities were discovered because of a “double-dog-dare”

Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles

The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team

Water balloons were the ultimate, ultimate weapon

Older siblings were your worst tormentors, but also your fiercest protector

If you can remember most or all of these, then you have LIVED!!!

Pass this on to anyone who may need a break from their “grown up” life…

I TRIPLE DOG DARE YA!!!

Datsun B210 – The Honey Bee! April 6, 2007

I was talking with some friends earlier about our first cars.  Does anyone remember my first car?  The Honey Bee.  I think Tom wrapped my car in tape once!  Masking tape, all the way around my car.

Jake had his first soccer class today!  It’s parent participation, so of course that means Joe…lol!  I wear flip-flops every day.  I can’t go kicking around a soccer ball!  LOL!!!  It was so cute.  All the kids in his class are 2 1/2 and 3 year olds.  He fell asleep on the way there so needless to say he was pissed off that we woke him up.  He was pretty cranky at the beginning and didn’t really “participate”.  But he really got into it after about 10 minutes or so.  The coach was really cool with the kids.  He is just teaching them the basics, which is probably about all they can handle right now.  Check out the pictures:

So, I really did start a new diet! March 29, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnna @ 1:13 am

My last post really got me motivated.  Or maybe it was when my 3 year old said, “Mommy, you have a big butt!”  Or it could have been when my 7 year old was cuddling with me on the couch and said, “Ohhh you’re like a water bed” Damned kids!  They are the reason for my wide ass and smooshy belly!  LOL!!!  Gotta love ‘em!  So, I started the low-carb route again.  It really is the only thing that has worked for me.  I lost almost 40 lbs when I did it 3 years ago after Jake was born.  So, here I go again.  Why the hell couldn’t I just be one of those girls who can eat anything she wants and not gain a pound?  I HATE those girls!  Jealous much?  LOL!!!  I’m on my 2nd week now.  I haven’t checked the scale yet.  I’m scared.  Scared I’ll be disappointed and give up again.  Wish me luck, I’m gonna need it!

Damn! I’m fat! March 6, 2007

And I don’t mean P-H-A-T!  I write this as I’m sitting at my desk shoving a fucking Cadbury creme egg down my pie hole!  My sister had surgery on her elbow, so I thought I would go visit and cheer her up this weekend.  I found some old cheerleading tapes and brought them along.  As I was watching those tapes remembering all the fun we had back in high school, I realized…”I’m a flippin’ cow!”  I remember constantly thinking I was so fat back then, but damn, I wish I had that body back!  Yeah, I don’t think I’ll be cramming my fat ass into my size 5 cheerleading skirt anytime in the near future.  Even though I’m sure my hubby would get a kick out of it.  My kids are 7 and 3.  I can’t even say it’s baby weight anymore.  BLAH!!!!!  Oh well, I’m off to start a new diet…who am I kidding?  I’m off to ebay to see if anyone is selling will-power.

BORED! February 24, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnna @ 9:33 am

OK, so I am the only one in the office today and I was bored off my ass.  Guess what I got paid $200 to do today?  Watch 2 movies!  Yeah for me!  I watched two girlie movies too.  John Tucker Must Die and The Devil Wears Prada.  I guess there are worse things I could be doing.  At my old job, it did not seem like there were enough hours in the day to get everything done.  I would often be there 12-15 hours trying to accomplish all my tasks.  Here, I sit at my desk and wait for the phone to ring.  This is the mortgage business which is pretty slow right now, but COME ON!  Seriously, I don’t know which I prefer anymore.  Oh, who the hell am I kidding?  Of course I’d rather get paid to do NOTHING and have my weekends off…lol!  Have a great weekend!  I wonder what I’ll watch on Monday…lol!

I just flew in from Vegas and boy are my arms tired! February 15, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnna @ 3:52 am

Vegas was quite fun.  Vegas + 7 yr old boy = creating a pervert!  Actually it was amusing to watch my son oogle all of the boobs and butts that can be seen on any given street corner in Vegas.  His cousin Brooke was competing in a cheerleading competition (she placed 2nd out of 16 teams), so all the kiddos were present.  It didn’t stop my sis and I from throwing back some alcoholic beverages though.  That’s what we brought along the hubbies for right?  Anyhoo, so Cameron absolutely idolizes this magician named Criss Angel.  He has a show on A&E called Criss Angel: Mindfreak.  He has the posters, the stickers, the jewlery, you name it.  Well, good ole’ Criss films his show (he does street magic like David Blaine) at the Luxor property.  So first thing Friday we head over to the Luxor to hunt him down like stalkers.  We check the Mindfreak store and the guy working tells us he is out back filming a stunt for the third season of his show.  So we hustle our asses out to the back parking lot and get there just in time to watch him get run over by a steam roller!  If you happen to catch that episode, be on the lookout for us!  After the taping we head back in to the store to buy some souveniers.  Guess what?  Criss is on his way in to sign some autographs!  Woohoo!  Cameron and Brooke are over the moon!  We get in line (only about 5 people back) and wait for his arrival.  Well everyone starts screaming and cheering and there he is, sunglasses on walking through the crowd like a superstar!  I cannot beging to tell you how incredibly cool this guy was to our children.  Too often you hear stories about the kid who saw his “idol” and the guy totally blew the kid off, crushing the image this poor kid had built up of him in his mind.  Well Criss Angel was having none of that!  Brooke was first to go.  Criss was asking how old she was, was she married, joking around with her.  He signed her poster and snapped a picture or two.  Next up was Cameron.  He was a bit nervous to actually meet him in person after seeing him on TV (every episode 400 times! Yeah for TIVO!).  He told Cameron how cool his sweatshirt was and stuff like that, signed his DVD cover, and took some pictures.  He signed a deck of cards for me as well!  I couldn’t resist, after all he’s HOT!!!!  I am so relieved that this guy was so damned cool to the kids.  I was worried that they might be dissappointed.  But, they could not stop talking about him all weekend.  It made bringing kids along with us to Vegas well worth all the headache they caused us!  Check out the pictures…

I’m Back… February 6, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — dawnna @ 1:27 am

I had a shitty week last week.  Monday night, I got hit by the flippin’ flu bug thats going around.  That knocked me on my ass until Thursday.  Then, it was like trying to play catch up.  Good thing we are pretty slow at work, so not much going on there.  Cameron had 4 friends from school over to play on Saturday, so no housework completed that day.  Then Superbowl yesterday…  I swear, I will get caught up someday.  I have to.  We leave Friday morning for Vegas…woohoo!  Wish me luck!

That is the name given to my newest neice.  She was born on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at 7:18 am.  She is just beautiful.  Her parents happen to be my best friends in the whole entire world, and I couldn’t make it to Arizona for her birth.  They induced her 2 weeks early and I couldn’t take the time off of work on such short notice, and I couldn’t afford it right now anyway.  With my loss of pay and travel and such, we’re probably looking at $1000 at least.  Why the hell did they have to go and move to Arizona anyways?  Shit!  I miss them all the time, especially times like this.  Friends are supposed to be there for each other.  I feel like I let Deb down.  I know she understands but it’s still hard, ya know? Anyhoo, Jasmine (“Jaz”) looks just like her sister Jaedyn did when she was born.  A perfect mix of both Debbie and Jamie.    I can’t wait to meet her in person.  Welcome to the world Miss Jasmine!  I love you very much!
